Overview
The XMAX Starry V4 is a budget-friendly dry herb vaporizer with a sleek look and discreet size. It features an OLED screen, adjustable airflow, and offers a replaceable battery system, alongside having USB-C charging. With all these features, you are sure to enhance your vaping experience. Starting at $99 and recommended to beginners, they also offer a fog pro version at $139 with a faster heat-up time, and a concentrate dosing capsule.
Included in the Box with your XMAX STARRY4 Vaporizer:
- 1 USB-C Cable Charger
- 1 Dosing Capsule
- 1 Cleaning Tool
- 1 Packing Tool
- 1 Brush
- 2 Mouthpiece O-rings
- 2 Chamber Mesh Screens
- 2 Mouthpiece Silicone Cap
- 3 Cotton Swabs
- 4 Alcohol Cotton Pods
- 1 User Manual
It’s recommended in the manual to fully charge your device before the first use and to do a burn-off cycle to sanitize it before using it. A burn-off cycle is just setting your device to 464° and letting it run on any timer length with the chamber empty. Unless you use the dosing capsule then empty it out and pop it in and run the burn-off cycle to sanitize your dosing capsule before use.
Design and Portability The XMAX presents a sleek look, and a zirconium mouthpiece that rotates 360 degrees. One issue with the mouthpiece is after long enough use it gets to be hot, however, they do provide two silicone covers for the mouthpiece in order to avoid burning yourself. And while the XMAX presents a sleek look, it’s actually on the heavier end of average compared to its competitors. The device comes in 4.5 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide making it easy to carry for anyone.
Key features
The Starry V4 vaporizer includes these features:
- An OLED screen that flips
- 360° zirconium mouthpiece
- Adjustable airflow slide
- USB-C charging/replaceable battery system
The OLED screen displays battery life, temperature goal, current temperature, and a hot cup displaying when it’s ready. The temperature settings range from 212°F-464°F. And by pressing both the ‘up’ and ‘down’ buttons for 2 seconds flips the screen making it easier to read regardless of what hand you use. The mouthpiece is made of zirconium which is meant to make it durable, hygienic, and is non-reactive so it won’t affect the taste of your vaporized herb.
The USB-C charging takes about 90 minutes for a full charge. The battery life once fully charged lasts about 90 full minutes of use which can easily last a few days of solo use if you stick to 4-minute sessions. However, In the case that you don’t have a charger the battery is replaceable. The battery is 18650 2550mAH battery, so if you’re planning a trip or a party I would keep a battery on hand just in case.
Performance
The V4 has a heat-up time of about 35 seconds and provides an even thorough heating. The chamber has the oven capacity of 0.17 grams packed lightly however packed a bit tighter you can fit about 0.25 grams.
It’s recommended to use the dosing capsule to keep the inside of your chamber clean longer. Otherwise, without the capsule, you’ll have to clean the metal filter and the inside of the chamber more often.
And the Starry V4 being a session vape, one of the most common types, it offers 4 minutes, 6 minutes, and 10 minutes. It vibrates when turning on or when it’s ready to inhale. Another way to tell if it’s ready to inhale is the hot cup it shows on the OLED screen, if it’s flashing it’s still heating up and if it has turned solid it’s ready to inhale.
To switch over between each timer, press the power button and the ‘up’ button at the same time for 2 seconds. Overall performance was good, the timed sessions were helpful, the heat-up was quick and with the airflow closed halfway the vapor quality was the best.
Cleaning
The cleaning process is fairly simple.
All you need is:
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Cotton swabs
You’ll want to detach all removable pieces which include the mouthpiece and filter. Using a cotton swab, wipe the inner part of the mouthpiece then wipe again with a damp paper towel.
Have a container ready full of isopropyl alcohol remove the filler from the magnet cap and place it in the isopropyl alcohol and let it soak.
As for the ceramic oven, use the brush included to clean the inside of any herb and finish it off with an isopropyl alcohol-soaked cotton swab. All that remains after that is letting all the isopropyl alcohol dry.
Tips
- Do a burn-off cycle at 464° after every cleaning then let the device cool before storing away to prolong your device lifespan.
- Experiment with the airflow and temperature- 385 to 400 seemed to be the best heat for best clouds and best taste.
Final Thoughts
Overall the XMAX Starry V4 is a pleasure to experience and this piece would be beneficial to beginning and experienced cannabis users. With the OLED screen, ease of use, and discreet size it makes a great portable vaporizer for the “under $100” category. The ceramic oven chamber is a bit bigger than most which is definitely a plus however vapor quality seemed to remain low regardless of airflow level. Regardless this is a vaporizer that would remain on my list to use and recommend for under $100.
